Do you want to rent a house and are you having problems because of your pet? Soon this will change. The Assembly of the Republic has just approved the proposed law of the People, Animals and Nature (PAN) party, whose objective is that no one can be discriminated against in accessing housing for pet animals. That is, the landlords will no longer be able to refuse to rent a house for this reason. The new rules, which had the support of all parliamentary parties with the exception of the PSD and the CDS-PP, will now be discussed in the specialty, so that they can be promulgated by the President of the Republic and published in Diário da República with the date of their entry into force. The generally accepted statute provides that notices of the offer of rental property may contain any "restriction, specification or preference based on ownership" of pet animals. And also the clauses of the leases and the condominium regulations are subject to the same rules, being null and void all clauses and norms that prohibit the resident from having animals at home. In order to avoid abuses, however, the diploma states that the rules of non-discrimination do not prevent "the other rules in force" regarding the presence of dogs, cats, parakeets or iguanas in the dwellings, namely "those concerning the maximum number of animals of company by fraction, to the spaces and conditions under which the holding of dangerous or potentially dangerous animals, and to the safeguarding of public health is allowed ". source: https://www.idealista.pt/news/imobiliario/habitacao/2017/07/03/33826-senhorios-obrigados-por-lei-a-aceitar-animais-de-estimacao
